THE ART RO​OM

Wondering what to give loved ones this year? Wanting to spend some quality time with the special people in your life; colleagues, friends, family? Join us for a whole weekend of festive workshops creating unique gifts and artworks. Prices start at £5 - £25. Come along with kids, family and friends to have a relaxing, inspiring morning, afternoon or evening. All materials are included in the price and they are all suitable for complete beginners to experienced artists.

Artists and teachers are all based here in the North East and drinks and snacks have been locally sourced too. We have also made every effort to reduce our carbon footprint by sourcing materials and resources from ethically sourced, local manufacturers wherever possible. In order to reduce waste, please do bring along your own

re-usable cup for your cuppa / hot choc.

All are welcome at the Art Room 😊 I have put age ranges on purely as a guide. Please do get in touch to discuss any additional needs or access info. Bookings will close 2 days before the events.

Papercutting with Keely from Kppapercuts  Aged 16+ £25 6-7.30

Join Keely for a wonderful papercutting session. You may recognise Keely from Channel 4’s ‘Kirstie’s handmade Christmas’. Everything you need will be included and the group size is small so that you get lot’s of one-to-one tuition with Keely.

 

Festive Floristry with Rachel Aged 11+ £25 6-7.30

Join Rachel for some festive floristry , making either a wreath or table decoration. Create a unique piece using natural materials and vintage finds. Everything will be included but do bring any ribbons or bits and pieces you would like to include from your own craft stash too. 😊

Origami GIft Boxes with Jayamini -Aged 11+ £12 10-12

Origami is the Japanese art of paper folding. In this workshop you will work with Jayamini de Silva from Jammi Arts to create beautiful Origami gift boxes that will perfect for little treasures and gifts this winter. Jayamini is originally from Sri Lanka but studied and trained in China and now lives here in the North East. She exhibits her work nationally and internationally.

Hand painted wooden decorations: 11-12 £7 pp with Kerry

Join Kerry for a class aimed at kids, tweens and teens. We will be using acrylic paints to create unique wooden decorations. Ideal as a gift for a loved one – what theme will you choose? Snowy star wars? Festive food? Winter landscapes? Let your imagination run wild!

Winter Watercolours with Marian Ages 8 + £20 1.30-3.30

Create a unique watercolour of a winter scene with Spanish multimedia artist Marian Hernandez Villada. You will use a range of exciting techniques to create the perfect gift for a loved one this Christmas or as a winter scene that you can frame and display every winter 😊

 

Traditional Paper 3D decorations with Kerry -Ages 10 + £5   1.30-2.30

Join Kerry for a class aimed at kids, tweens and teens. Kerry will be showing you how to create classic paper decorations using recycled materials as well as lots of festive papers. We will make hanging decorations as well as streamers, chains, stars and as many as you can make in an hour! Our houses are going to look so unique and amazing this year!!

 

 

Saturday Night

Art and Craft Christmas Social FREE / Pay what you can 6pm

Come along for some feel good hygge time at the Art Room. Bring whatever crafts or art you are working on – knitting, crochet, sketching, painting and have a hot chocolate.

As part of this event there will be a book swap – bring one, take one- with some book bundles available to keep those winter nights cosy and creative.

This is a pay what you can event- all monies raised go back into funding future workshops and events – pop some pennies in the pots on the table if you can.

Deb Cooper is a mixed media textile artist with a passion for stitch. Living and working here in the North East, Deb has always been surrounded by fabric sewing. Join her for a festive themed stitch session to create a unique and beautiful hand sewn bauble for your tree.

 

 

Vintage paper wreaths with Ellie - Ages 11+ £15 1.30-3.30

Make your own Christmas wreath with artist Ellie Clewlow! You’ll upcycle vintage music scores into a unique Christmas decoration.

Ellie Clewlow is a paper artist living and working in Sunderland. She folds, quilts and weaves second hand books and discarded paper to explore ideas of time, place and identity.
